JV Girls Volleyball Team Recognized for Support and Dedication

Coach Marylin Underhill had a difficult time nominating just one of the JV Varsity Girls Volleyball players as Athlete of the Week. Below is what she shared with The Talon:

I would like to nominate my JV Varsity Girls Volleyball team as Athlete of the Week for the following reasons. 

This group of young women represent the truest form of the word "athlete." They are strong and confident when winning; they are supportive and focused when losing. This group never gives up on a ball, nor on each other. They have been a joy to work with this year. They are truly athletes.

Middle School Male Athlete of the Week

The Middle school Male Athlete of the Week is Macaully Gillespie. Macaully was chosen Athlete of the Week because he fought hard to win during a game earlier last week and he plays hard, game in and game out. Macaully plays for the middle school boys volleyball team. 


Middle School Female Athlete of the Week


The Middle School Female Athlete of the Week is Cassidy Hallihan. Cassidy was chosen because she is a great server and scores a lot of points for her team. Cassidy plays for the middle school JV volleyball team.

High School Male Athlete of the Week


The High School Male Athlete of the Week is Jonah Peterson. Jonah was chosen because of his hard work and dedication to his team. Jonah plays for the Varsity Boys volleyball team.

The Middle School Athlete of the Week is Hayley Underhill. Hayley was selected because she is dedicated and works hard.

High School Male Athlete of the Week

The Male Athlete of the Week for high school  is Alex Hallihan. Alex was chosen because of his solid work ethic on and off of the volleyball court. 

Middle School Male Athlete of the Week

The Male Athlete of the Week for middle school is Drake Donovan. Drake was chosen because of his show of leadership and hustle during regular play along with his efforts at the volleyball tournament in Bathurst.

Our High School Male Athlete of the Week is Dylan Storey. Dylan was chosen because of his leadership on and off the basketball court and his "never give up" attitude. When asked how he felt getting athlete of the week he said it was a great honour. 

Our High School Female Athlete of the Week is Abby Donovan. Abby was chosen because of her leadership on and off the basketball court and her hard work ethic. When asked how she felt about getting athlete of the week she said it was a great honour and she feels great.

Athletes of the Week (Nov. 02 - 06)

Erin Moody was named high school female athlete of the week. She was named because of her excellent performance throughout the season. Erin was very excited to be named female athlete of the week.
Hugo White-O'Connell was named the high school male athlete of the week. He was named because of his excellent performance and his offensive abilities and hard work. Hugo was very excited to be named the male athlete of the week. He was very proud of himself.

Athletes of the Week (Oct. 19-23)

The High School female athlete of the week is Tori Sullivan. She was chosen for her very good offence game in the past couple of games. Tori was very excited to be named athlete of the week seeing as she is only in grade 9. 
The High School male athlete of the week is Jonah Peterson. He was chosen for his very hard defence game all season long. He gives 110% game in and game out. Jonah was very pleased to receive this honour.

High School Athletes Of The Week



The male athlete of the week is Riley Keenan. Riley Keenan was chosen because of his strong work ethic, and how he is always hungry for the ball. Riley never misses a practice and he is always giving 100 percent out on the field. When Riley was asked how he felt by getting athlete of the week, he said, "It is a really big honour getting this notice from my coach".


The female athlete of the week is Jaime Vickers. Jaime Vickers was chosen because of her scoring ability at the start of the season. Also for her hard working and "never quit" attitude. In her response for being recognized as female athlete of the week she said "She was mint."

Star Athletes of Blackville School for January


High School Boys: Dylan Storey
"Dylan is a very good athlete, a good team leader and is one of the strongest shooters on the team!" said coach Loretta Gorbett. Dylan is a key player on the High School Boys team. He is in the starting line up, and hardly ever comes off the floor, averaging around 20 points per game, and he is only in grade 11. Dylan was also the goalkeeper for the High School boys soccer team and enjoys playing road hockey outside of school.




Middle School Boys: Denver Donovan
"Denver is a very committed player, he hasn't missed a practice yet, which shows great dedication to his team," said coach Loretta Gorbett. Even though the Middle School boys have yet to play a game, it is very clear that Denver will be a crucial player throughout the course of the year. Denver also plays on the Middle School boys soccer team and volleyball team and plays hockey outside of school.



High School Girls: Abby Donovan

"Abby has great work ethic and an awesome attitude," said coach Matthew Sturgeon. And this attitude extends to off the court as well. Abby spends a fair amount of time on the court, despite only being in Grade 10. Abby looks forward to being a key figure in the basketball teams hierarchy for the remainder of her high school career. Abby also plays hockey and soccer.
                             


Middle School Girls: Andrea Lynch
"She has noticeably improved since the beginning of the season and shows great sportsmanship during both games and practices. She is a great asset to this year's team! Keep up the great work Andrea!" said coaches Jessica Munn and Mandy Colford. Andrea also plays on the Middle School girls soccer team and volleyball team, and she also plays badminton outside of school.

Star Athletes of Blackville School for December

High School Boys: Josh Underhill

"Josh is a very good athlete, a good team leader and has great sportsmanship!" said coach Loretta Gorbett about Josh concerning his leadership, game play and attitude on and off the court. Josh has been an integral part of the High School Boys Basketball team since Grade 9 and now in Grade 11 is the starting point guard and hardly comes off the court. Josh also plays hockey and football outside of school.










High School Girls: Abby Donovan

"Abby has great work ethic and an awesome attitude," said coach Matthew Sturgeon about Abby's playing and attitude not only on the court, but off the court as well. Abby spends a fair amount of time on the court, despite only being in Grade 10. Abby looks forward to being a key figure in the basketball teams hierarchy for the remainder of her high school career. Abby also plays hockey and soccer.
                               
Middle School Boys: Denver Donovan

When asked about Denver Donovan's efforts with the middle school basketball team, coaches Josh Underhill and Connor Duffy said that "Denver is a really hard working kid. He listens very well and is a monster around the rim." Denver is a senior player on the basketball team seeing that he is in grade 8 and is looking forward to being on the senior boys team next year when he makes the jump to high school. Denver also plays hockey, soccer and volleyball.


Middle School Girls: Tori Sullivan

"She always keeps the team motivated, and she is kind to her teammates. She is an overall great athlete!" said coach Jessica Munn. Tori is a senior member of the middle school girls basketball team seeing she is in Grade 8, and plays a major leadership role on the team for the younger players. Tori also plays soccer and hockey.

Star Athletes of Blackville School

 High School Boys - Dylan Storey
"He's been consistent, dedicated and works hard in games and practices," said Coach Rodney Buggie about Dylan concerning his efforts with the Senior Boys soccer team and his place in their quest for the provincial banner. Dylan is not only the goalkeeper for the Senior Boys soccer team, but he is also a crucial part of the Senior Boys Basketball team. Outside of school, Dylan likes to play any type of pick up sports including outdoor basketball and road hockey.




Middle School Boys - Denver Donovan
"Denver shows a 100% effort day in and day out, and works hard every game," said Coach DJ Mason about Denver and his contribution to the Middle School boys soccer team. Denver put in a great effort in the last few games of the boys season, scoring six goals in two games. Denver is also a main part of the Middle School boys volleyball team. Meanwhile outside of school, Denver plays hockey and road hockey. 



 High School Girls - Felicia Stockless
"Felicia was a great asset to the team this year, she was always giving 100% and she had a great attitude and willingness to learn," said coach Ronda Vickers about Felicia when asked what kind of a player Felicia was. She was a very valued player despite this being her first year playing soccer and her first year at Blackville School. Outside of school Felicia also enjoys playing hockey.





Middle School Girls - Laura Colford
"Laura is a great athlete and always puts forth a great effort during practices and games. She is a great asset to the middle school girls soccer team and always has a great attitude and keeps the team in high spirits," said Coach Jessica Munn about Laura and her work with the Middle School girls soccer team. Laura was a great team player, and barely came off the field throughout the season. Outside of school Laura also plays hockey and volleyball.

Athletes of the Week

High School Female Athlete
Brooke Underhill
"Brooke gives 100%; she is always there and she is always willing to help," said Coach Rhonda Vickers. Brooke is number 11 and plays forward for the Golden Eagles. Other sports she plays are hockey and basketball. Outside of school she loves to Snapchat Sten and Ken. 


High School Male Athlete 
Cleve Morehouse
"Cleve has 100% leadership on and off the field," said Coach Rodney Buggie. Cleve is number 4 and plays sweeper. He also plays hockey and outside of school he enjoys hanging out at TODH and playing xbox.



Middle School Female Athlete
Abby Donovan
"Abby scored goals this week, and she is always giving 100% in games!" said Coach Matthew Sturgeon. Abby is number 2 and she plays right mid-field. She also plays hockey, volleyball, basketball and track and field! Outside of school she likes to play on her laptop.

Middle School Male Athlete 
Denver Donovan
"Denver scored 3 goals in only 2 games!" said Coach Brandon Ryan. Denver is number 10 and his favorite position to play is forward. Other sports he plays are hockey, baseball and volleyball. Outside of school he loves to play sports!




Elementary Gold Athlete
Reese Urquhart 
"Reese is a tough player. She got injured a few times, but she always get right back up!" said Coach Holly McEvoy. Reese is number 25 and her favourite position is forward. She also plays hockey and she enjoys to read outside of school.



Kensen Brennan
"Kenson was chosen for Athlete of the Week for finishing first in her latest cross country race!" said Coach Brandon Ryan. Kensen also plays soccer and hockey and in her spare time she loves to run around!

Athletes of the Week

High School Female Athlete
Amelia Underhill
"She is awesome as a goalie and she kept all opposing goals out of the net all week," said Coach Rhonda Vickers. Amelia is playing goalkeeper for the Golden Eagles this year. She also plays volleyball and outside of school she loves to play the guitar and sing.



High School Male Athlete 
Joseph Hallihan
"He deserves Athlete of the Week due to his tireless efforts in practices and games," said Coach Rodney Buggie. Joe is number 5 for the Golden Eagles and he also plays mid-field. Outside of school he likes playing video games and hanging out at TODH.



Elementary Blue Athlete
Hudson Underhill 
"Hudson is an overall great team player," said Coach Holly McEvoy. Hudson's soccer number is 14 and his favourite position to play is center. Outside of school he loves to ride his bike.




Elementary Gold Athlete
Amber Walls
"Amber gives 110% every game and she never missed a game yet," said Coach Brandon Ryan. The number she wears is 59 and her favourite position to play in soccer is forward. Outside of school she likes to jump on the trampoline.

High School Male Athlete
Dylan Storey
 "He played a real good game against the Stanley Blue Devils, he has been working very hard in practices and his game has improved," said Coach Rodney Buggie. Dylan plays defence for the Golden Eagles and outside of school he enjoys playing many other sports.








High School Female Athlete
Kendra Underhill
 "She played exceptionally well throughout the beginning of this season, and she scored their only goal so far," said Coach Rhonda Vickers. Kendra plays striker for the Golden Eagles and outside of school she loves to hang out with her friends and play sports.







Elementry Blue Soccer Athlete
William Schofield
 "This season he has scored six goals and played very well offensively and defensively," said Coach Brandon Ryan. William's favourite position to play is center and outside of school he loves to play hockey.




Elementary Gold Soccer Athlete
Preston Gillespie
"He is a hard worker and a great team player," said Coach Holly McEvoy. Preston's favourite position to play in soccer is forward and outside of school he enjoys playing hockey and road hockey.
