Middle and High School Plays Recognized at Provincial Drama Festival

Blackville School plays from both the middle and high school levels were recognized at this year's New Brunswick Provincial Drama Festival held from May 11-18 in Fredericton.

The Middle School Drama Club's play Drama Geeks Vs. Zombie Cheerleaders received six awards and recognitions. Middle School students Reese Urquhart, Anna Sturgeon, Abby Keenan and Patrick Donovan all received Outstanding Actor Awards.

The play also received an Outstanding Use of Choreography Award and a Special Adjudicator’s Mention for Innovative Lighting.

The High School Drama Club's play Game of Tiaras also received six awards and recognition. Laura Jardine and Jasmine Jardine received awards for Outstanding Student Directors. Robyn Stewart received and Outstanding Actor Award and Gina Keenan received an Outstanding Supporting Actor Award.

The play also received an Outstanding Use of Costume Award and a Special Adjudicator's Mention for Ensemble Work and Comedic Achievement.

The Theatre Arts 120's play The Nine Worst Breakups of All Time received four awards and recognitions. Calvin Furlong received a Special Adjudicator's Mention for Playing the Villain.

The play received Special Adjudicator's Mention for Ensemble and Special Adjudicator's Mention for Taking Risks. The play also received an Outstanding Use of Choreography Award.

Middle and High School Plays Receive Recognitions at Drama Festival

Middle school and high school students from Blackville School attended the Provincial Drama Festival in Fredericton during the week of May 4.

The Middle School Drama Club presented "The Happiness Shop," the High School Drama Club presented "Cinderella and The Substitute Fairy Godmother" and the High School Theatre Arts 120 class presented "Crushed".

All three groups did an outstanding job and received great praise from the adjudicators.

High School Drama Productions Receive Funding Support

Karen White-O'Connell from NBCC-Miramichi presented the High School Drama club and Theatres Arts Class 120 with a cheque for $250.00 from the NBCC-Miramichi Community Fund program.

Blackville students have benefited from this fund before by receiving new uniforms for the sports teams.

Both the Theatre Arts class and the High School Drama Club presented their plays at the  Provincial Drama Festival in Fredericton last Thursday, May 07.

Dr. Funk's Christmas Explosion

The High School Drama Club performed the Christmas production, "Dr Funk's Christmas Explosion" on Thursday, December 19.

The production consisted of three short comedies. The audience enjoyed sweets and sandwiches between each skit.

The production, with a cast of ten students, was directed by Grade 12 student Candace Purcell.

Theatre Arts 120 Performance Received Recognitions at Drama Festival

The Theatre Arts 120 Class received ten recognitions at the annual High School Drama Festival. The cast of fifteen travelled to Fredericton last Thursday and Friday to perform.

The play Check Please 2/3 by Jonathan Rand received two Special Adjudicator's mentions for "Outstanding Ensemble Environment" and Outstanding Attention to Detail." There was also a recognition for "Outstanding Production."

Seven recognitions for "Outstanding Supporting Actor" went to Shawn Hallihan, Nicole Sullivan, Nolan Donovan, Valeja Birnbach, Marissa Donohue, Josie Coulter, and Jackson Hallihan.

High School Plays Recognized at Drama Festival

Thirty two high school students from Blackville School participated in the annual New Brunswick Drama  Festival on Thursday, April 26.

The Theatre Arts class 120 performed Noise of the Toys while the High School Drama Club performed The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon.

Both plays received recognitions. Noise of the Toys received Special Adjudicator's Mention for Ensemble Work and Comedic Timing as well as Outstanding Use of Costumes. Additionally, grade 12 student Taylar Curtis received an Outstanding Supporting Actor recognition. The director was Mrs. Cheryl Underhill.

The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon received a Special Adjudicator's Mention for Comedic Timing and Grade 12 student Melissa Underhill received an Outstanding Actor recognition. The play was directed by Grade 12 student Michael McNeil

High school play performances

The Theatre Arts 120 Class and High School Drama Club performed their two plays for the general public last Thursday, May 12 in the school cafeteria. The plays were also performed at the New Brunswick Drama Festival on Monday, May 2.

The plays won some recognitions and awards at the festival. The Theatre Arts Class' performance of The Way It Is was recognized for Ensemble Work, Outstanding Use of Set, and Outstanding Teacher Director Award to Ms. Cheryl Underhill.

The High School Drama Club's Performance of 13 Ways To Screw Up Your College Interview was recognized for Ensemble Work, Outstanding Choice of Material, and Outstanding Student Directors Award to Michael McNeil and Melissa Underhill.

The money raised from admission at last Thursday's performances was donated to the school's Free the Children Adopt a Village Water Project. For more photos from the performances, click here.

Drama clubs hold Christmas Dessert Theater



On Wednesday evening, December 15, the Middle and High School Drama Clubs held a dessert theater which was hosted by the Culinary 110 class. The audience enjoyed three Christmas plays: What, No Santa?, CSI (Christmas Scene Investigators), and Billy Shakespeare's Extravaganza and Traveling Freak Show. Full House at High School Performances

It was a full house in the Blackville School cafeteria Wednesday evening, May 19. The High School Drama Club and Theatre Arts 120 class presented their two short comedies, How to Succeed in High School Without Really Trying and Check Please. The audience enjoyed many laughs and also some sweets, tea and coffee, served during the intermission.

The Most Amazing Christmas Play Series

The High School Drama Club presented a Christmas Dinner Theatre on Saturday, December 5. About 100 people attended, and they enjoyed four short Christmas comedies and a spaghetti dinner with garlic bread, caesar salad and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The four short comedies, that included gnomes competing with elves and Santa on a low carb diet, are called The Most Amazing Christmas Play Series in the Entire History of the World by Don Zolidis. The spaghetti dinner and dessert was prepared by the Culinary 110 class. To see more photos from the evening, click here.
